Generic Universal Wargame System

Post by Judging__Eagle »

Note: This game has two modes: "skirmish" mode, and "command" mode.

For Skirmish Games; every ability that is purchased needs to be purchased per unit member. In Skirmishes, each member of a unit counts as having 1 Wound per 3 Soak Dice before they fall over.

For Command Games; every ability purchased is bought for the unit. In Commanded engagements, a unit has 1 Wound per Soak Dice.

Players use Units (detailed below) to perform actions, with the following (tentative) order of operations:
  1. Issue Unit Orders; Linked Units can be issued the same orders. No unit may receive the same orders twice in a row
  2. Roll Initiative for Units
  3. Follow out Unit Orders
For 1.

Orders include:
Engage: Use Ranged, or Melee, whichever is usable first [Base Movement or Nearest Viable Target]
Fire: Use Ranged weapons on nearby enemies [1/2 Movement and Ranged attacks]
Assault: Move towards enemies to engage hand to hand [Base Movement, towards visible enemies; +1d6/Member Accuracy when determining Melee combat]
Maneuver: Change unit Position [Base Movement +50% for this Order]
Take: Temporarily Entrench unit [+1 Soak/member]
Hold: Improve existing Entrenchment [+1 Soak/member/Round; Cap of Holding Unit's Soak value]
Patrol: If previous Orders were Engage, a unit may be issued the Patrol order. [Move up to 1/2 base movement, Can Assault/Fire viable targets; Repeatable]
Melee: [Fight enemy in hand to hand; Repeatable]
Overwatch: Fire on any enemy within range, do not move. [+50% range (?) Repeatable]

For 2: Each unit rolls their Initiative Pool, and uses the total as their current Initiative score.

For 3:

Units with the lowest Initiative score move first, Units with the Highest Initiative score move last.

Any unit, with higher initiative than a currently acting unit, may interrupt an other unit's actions, and carry out their own orders before an acting unit can complete their actions.

Units

Units are a number of members, brought together to fight as a single group, not scattered individuals. Each unit has the following:

Units:
[Speed Rating (cost, 0, 1, 3, 6, 9/Unit) [3", 6", 9", 12", 24"]]/[Initiative (Cost 4 per d6) [Id6]/[Veternancy Rating (10/d6) [Vd6]]

Attacks:
Accuracy (cost 4/d6) [Ad6]/Range (cost) [distance]/Damage (cost 3/d6) [Dd6)

Unit Strength:
Damage Soak (3 per d6) [Sd6]/Unit Coherency (0, 2, 4) [Regiment (0"); Squad (2"), Scouts (4")/Morale (cost: 2/d6 ) [Md6]

Unit
Speed
[Equipment (0 pts) [3" with crew]
Foot (1 pts) [6"],
Fast (3) [9"],
Vehicle (6) [12"],
Flight (9)] [24"]

[Initiative]
-Unlike other Pools, Initiative checks total the entire value of all dice when rolled, instead of only counting successes. This is meant to help create more variance in Initiative scores between units, even if they only have an Id6 of 1 or 2.

Unit Veterancy
-Every round, bonus dice to be left in a pile; this pile of dice may be borrowed from for currently rolled dice pool checks, however the borrowed dice are not returned to the pool, and unspent dice carry over from one round to an other. [yes, it's like, the single best ability; which makes sense, it -is- the single best ability a combat unit can have, experience]

Attacks:

A unit calls their target
Checks attack Range to see if they hit
Rolls their Accuracy Dice to determine number of Hits
Rolls their Damage Dice to determine number of Wounds Delivered
Defender Rolls Soak to see if any wounds are blocked
Defender assigns Wounds to unit
Defender checks if unit has suffered 30%+ Casualties; if so, roll Morale check.

Coherency doesn't mean much right now, but I plan for it to do so. Squads and Scouts are able to get to Cover a lot easier.

Generally, units will be represented with 3" by 5" index cards. Art on the blank side; data and flavor text on the back. Players are encouraged to make their own units. Using Models is also permitted (and possibly gives 'fate', or veterancy benefits).
The Gaming Den; where Mathematics are rigorously applied to Mythology.

While everyone's Philosophy is not in accord, that doesn't mean we're not on board.

How many units do you see people using for a game?
